We’re so proud to supply the exclusive D L & Co candles in Shop Renideo.  Here’s an interview with the founder, Douglas Little, that appeared in the May edition of Harpers Bazaar (Korea).

- You call yourself a modern alchemist. Is this what you consider yourself?

Although I have been called many things in my life, my profesional title is "creative director".  I refer to myself as a "modern alchemist" as alchemy is the ancient art of transformation.  Once believed that through the practice of this arcane science one could transform lead into gold.  I adopted this idealism as beautiful fragrance, art and objet' often have the power to transform the mundane into the extraordinary. 

- Your wax works are absolutely jaw dropping and amazing. Where does this passion for wax art work come from?

I have a deep passion for that which is ephemeral and fleeting.  Almost all of my art reflects this idealism.  Wax for me is a very profound material to work in as it is both permanent and temporary.  Wax has the innate ability to communicate sensuality on an subliminal level to the viewer. I love that this material can stir a sense of both wonder and awe.  
- Will you create more: when, where and what?

I am always in a perpetual state of creating these pieces.  They take much planning,time and thought.  I  constantly draw inspiration from my travels and relationships.  I am currently working on some new pieces for Bergdorf Goodman that will be on display in October of 2009.   

- Candles are becoming a big item sought after many who appreciate the time to relax at home. What makes yours different from the already available luxury candles?

D.L.&Co. Products are much more of an experiance than a candle, which makes giving or receiving one so special.  I wanted these products to be full of detail, thought and craftsmanship that felt vintage and romantic yet incredibly modern and chic. 

- Some comment on wax candles not being so healthy or eco friendly. I like the idea that your candles are made of a blend of soy, maple and palm waxes. Does this make it any healthier?

D.L.& Company's patented wax blend is a healthier option than paraffin candles.  I formulated this blend specifically to be able to hold large amounts of the fragrance oils and disperse them cleanly and clearly. 

-Are paraffin wax candles harmful to you?

Burning anything in your home is not good for you.  Paraffin is not the best for you as the wax tends to give off a tremendous amount of black soot and smoke.  Paraffin wax will only hold small ammounts of fragrance which tends to make candles that are made from them not as desirable.

- What are the benefits of having scented candles in your home?

I love the act of lighting a candle.  There is something magical about striking a match and igniting the wick. We associate candles with celebration, ceremony and romance.

Combine these basic emotional reactions with  a beautiful fragrance and you have an experiance that is multi-sensory, relaxing and enjoyable. Fragrances candles can create ambiance and mood to any space.
